Transform Your Smilewith Porcelain Veneers

Chips, cracks, gaps, and discoloration can detract from the natural beauty of your smile. With porcelain veneers, you can conceal a range of cosmetic issues and enhance the shade and shape of your teeth. For many patients, a set of porcelain veneers offers the same benefits as dental crowns, teeth whitening, and orthodontics combined. At Planes Dental Arts in Port St. Lucie and Vero Beach, FLDr. Alex Planes offers several types of veneers, including IPS e.max®, feldspathic, and minimal prep.

Understanding Veneers

Veneers are thin shells of dental ceramic or composite resin that fit over the front surfaces of teeth. Dr. Planes can color-match the material to blend in with your smile, or he can choose a brighter shade for enhanced results. Veneers can address:

  • Mild to severe discoloration
  • Worn teeth
  • Chips or cracks
  • Minor misalignment
  • Disproportionate or misshapen teeth
  • Gaps or an uneven smile

With traditional veneers, Dr. Planes will first remove a thin layer of enamel to make sure the veneers fit without appearing bulky. If you do not have enough enamel, you may still qualify for a minimal prep option. Patients interested in veneers must be in good overall oral health. If necessary, we can provide treatment for decay or periodontal disease before placing your veneers.

If you choose traditional veneers, we must first remove a small portion of enamel to accommodate the restorations.

Planning Your Treatment

During your initial cosmetic consultation, Dr. Planes will perform a comprehensive oral health examination to ensure your teeth and gums are in good condition. He can also sit down with you to discuss your goals and concerns and determine if veneers are right for you. At Planes Dental Arts, we offer a smile design process which can help you visualize your results.

Veneers can enhance multiple aspects of your smile for a brighter, more symmetrical, and overall more beautiful appearance.

Using digital photography, we will take photos of your smile and input them into our design software to show you how your teeth may look after your procedure. It is our goal to ensure you are confident about your decision to undergo treatment. Dr. Planes can also explain the different types of veneers available at our office and recommend the optimal one for you.

The Placement Process

If you decide to proceed with traditional veneers, Dr. Planes will prepare your teeth by removing a thin layer of enamel. Then, we will take impressions and send the information to our lab. It may take a few weeks for the lab to fabricate your veneers. Dr. Planes can place temporary veneers to protect your teeth against sensitivity during this time.

When your veneers are complete, you will return to our office to try them on and make sure they fit properly. Dr. Planes can make minor adjustments to the fit and shape of your veneers at this time. Once you are satisfied, he will bond the veneers to the front of your teeth to reveal a bright, beautiful smile.

Maintain Your Veneers

With proper care, dental veneers can last more than 10 years. Brushing and flossing regularly can maintain the color of your veneers as well as the health of your teeth beneath the restorations. We also recommend coming into our office for regular exams and cleanings. You should avoid using your teeth to open packages and refrain from biting your nails, as this can damage your veneers.
