For patients who need to replace a full arch of teeth, All-on-4® dental implants is a fast and cost-effective solution. Typically, a full implant-retained denture requires six to eight implant posts for support. However, for qualifying patients, Dr. Alex Planes can use the All-on-4 technique to strategically place four implant posts, which can provide a secure, stable base for a full denture. In addition, Dr. Planes can attach a temporary restoration the same day as implant placement, so you will never be without teeth. At Planes Dental Arts in Port St. Lucie and Vero Beach, FL, we use high quality implants from Nobel Biocare® for secure full-arch rehabilitation.
The All-on-4 treatment uses four implants to restore a full arch of teeth. Implants create a sturdy, stable base for large restorations, such as full dentures. The difference between this method and traditional implants comes from the strategic placement process. Two of the implants are placed as they normally would be: vertically in the front of the jaw. However, the two back implants are placed at an angle to take advantage of the densest section of bone available. This means that patients at our practice who may otherwise not qualify for dental implants due to bone loss may be candidates for All-on-4.
The All-on-4 technique is suitable for patients who are missing most or all of their teeth, but are otherwise in good oral health. Dr. Planes can determine your candidacy during a complimentary implant consultation at our office. We often recommend All-on-4 for patients who:
Treatment with dental implants is not recommended for patients who have severe medical conditions or are heavy smokers. Tobacco use and certain health concerns can impair healing and affect the success of your implants.
A typical timeline for All-on-4 treatment is six to eight months for a restoration in the upper jaw and four to five months for the lower jaw. However, you will likely leave your placement appointment with temporary teeth. Dr. Planes works with a skilled technician who comes into the office on the day of the procedure. The technician can create a comfortable and stable temporary restoration for you to wear during the healing process.
With the All-on-4 technique, we can restore the appearance and function of your smile in just one procedure.
During your implant placement procedure, Dr. Planes will carefully place four implant posts into your upper or lower jaw and attach the temporary restoration to the posts. During the first month of recovery, you will visit our office three to four times so Dr. Planes can monitor your progress. The final appointment you have will likely be the placement of your permanent dentures.
With the All-on-4 technique, we can restore the appearance and function of your smile in just one procedure. Though you will have to wait to receive your permanent restoration for a few months, you can enjoy the stability of your temporary denture during the recovery period.
